Today's medal
It rained and it rained some more today in the 1st championship qualifying medal. But that didn't stop some of our juniors posting fabulous scores.
Conor O'Toole posted a remarkable 65 (nett 62), reducing his handicap to 1.8.
Mark McKay, who hasn't played a lot of golf over the winter and has only really resumed playing in the last 2 weeks after recovering from a broken wrist, scored an amazing nett 50 and now has a CONGU handicap of 25.7 rather than his previous Club Handicap of 37!
Well done Conor and Mark and well done all 13 of you for braving the conditions - not a call-off or NR in sight! Craigmillar Park juniors are made of tough stuff!

Conor and Sam help secure gents team win!
Two of our juniors, Conor O'Toole and Sam Hall, last night secured two of the 4.5 points for the gents team in their match against Kingsknowe.
Conor, now a regular in the gents team, was always in control of his match winning 4&2. Sam was called into the team at the last minute and playing last, the team scores were tied. The team report states "Star of the night was Sam Hall who was always in touch and never more than 1 down. He drew level many times and again at the 13th and by the 16th was 1 up. He knew his match result would be the Team result (win/ loose /draw). After hitting a drive and an iron to the back of the 17 green with the hole at the front, he putted close and was given a birdie 4 which was matched by Scott from Kingsknowe. On then to 18 still 1 up, both players hit the green in two and when Scott missed his putt he gave Sam his for a 2 up win and a 4.5 - 3.5 win for the team."
Well done Conor and Sam! (and of course the men!)

2017 Faldo Series Scotland Championship
Sir Nick Faldo’s global golf development programme, The Faldo Series, is taking place in Scotland at The Duke’s, St Andrews from July 24th - 26th.
More than 7,000 young talented golfers benefit globally from the programme each year through a unique combination of tournament experience and expert advice. The format for the Scotland Championship is 54-hole gross stroke-play over 3 days. The membership fee of £60 per player for the event includes one practice round and the three competition rounds. However a cut is made to 60% of each category at the end of the second round as an incentive to play well. Previous Faldo Series winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.
Boys and girls aged 12 to 21 can take part. With the fields divided into five age categories, three boys and two girls from the event will qualify for the Faldo Series Europe Grand Final. This is a World Amateur Golf Ranking event hosted by six times Major Champion Sir Nick Faldo.

Junior 10 Hole Scramble 7 May
What a lovely day we had today - sun shining, lots of happy faces, great golf and lots of fun, Lots of great golf on display (and a few dodgy shots as well) and lots of laughter heard all over the course. 9 juniors and adults took part in 3 teams.
There was only one shot separating the teams in the end (good handicapping decisions by yours truly me thinks!). The winners with 33 were Georgia Ledingham, Lucy Hill and Cameron Wilson led by Alex Garden.
A bit of pressure was put on the adults who were only allowed 3 drives each and were not allowed to play consecutive shots! Lots of "no pressure then" comments were heard as most saved their last drive for the 9th - but they were up to the challenge (most of the time!) and the juniors helped them out (most of the time!).
Thank you to everyone who took part and made this such a fun day. The juniors even got to meet our legendary Honorary President Bob Kilgour. Thanks to John for the popcorn (which resulted in the Junior Convenor having to get on her knees with a brush and dustpan afterwards).
