Post holiday update

Its been a while since we updated the blog - been away on holiday and lots been happening since I got back, so here we go!

Team Matches
We have played 5 of our six Edinburgh league matches with four wins and 1 narrow defeat away to Murrayfield:

Kingsknowe (home) 6-0 win
West Linton (away) 4-2 win
Murrayfield (away) 2.5- 3.5 loss
Duddingston (home) 6-0 win
Dalmahoy (home) 4.5-1.5 win

Our last match is away to Prestonfield on 28 July and a good result should see us through to the semi-final knockout stages as runner up in our group to Murrayfield who have won all their matches.  Well done team!

Junior Championship
Congratulations on everyone who qualified for the junior championship and especially to our champion and new Junior Vice Captain Danny Hendry.  A great final between Danny and Alessio Margiotta played in fantastic sunshine and great spirit.

Monday evening roll-ups
Great to see so many turning up on Monday evenings. If you haven't been then get yourself to the club for about 6.20 on Monday evenings for some fun golf.

Scottish Golf video

See the video of our open day and star roles by some of our juniors!

Competitions

Numbers in competitions have been a little disappointing so far so time to dust those clubs down and enter! But some great scores already. In the last junior medal Georgia Ledingham had a nett 62 (adjusted 60) and reduced her handicap to 15.5. Brother Cameron and Callum Murison both had nett 65's. Conor O'Toole won the scratch with 70.

Lucy Hill won the 9 hole stableford, and Cameron Wilson and Daniel Hogg were awarded their silver Flag certificates. (and no Cameron doesn't wear his helmet on the golf course - he was about to cycle home!)

Team Matches

Great start to our Junior League title defence with a 6-0 win against Kingsknowe last Friday and a 4-2 win away at West Linton last night.  The next match is away against Murrayfield on Friday 1st June.  This will be a tough one but we an do it!

First Monday Evening Roll-up

Great to have so many out for our first Monday evening ‘roll- up’ of the season despite many studying hard at home for exams. 10 girls and 4 boys. Now that’s a ratio you don’t often see at golf clubs!

Remember the roll-ups are every Monday with the first tee time at 6.30pm.  Please turn up around 6.15pm so we can sort people into groups. It would be helpful if you could use Team App to give us an idea of expected numbers.

Good luck to all those with exams this month.

Fun activities at Craigmillar Park

All the snow has meant our course has been used for a different type of sport this week. Believe it or not, the golf season is just around the corner and will kick off with a social evening on Thursday 22nd March in the clubhouse from 6.30pm. You should have received a separate email about it.  Please contact Frances if you can come. Family and friends welcome

The first golf event will be an Adult / Junior Foursomes competition on Sunday 1st April from 1.45pm.  Please bring along your friends and if you don’t have an adult to play with, don’t worry - we will find one for you!

Before the snow

17 out last week in our last junior scramble of the winter. A fun day was had by all. Well done to winners Danny Hendry, Daniel Hogg and Cameron Ledingham with a fantastic 32 for 10 holes! Great to see our ‘senior’ players mentoring our stars of the future. Congratulations to runners up the Murisons.

Changes to Handicap Regulations 2018

There used to be two types of handicaps available to juniors, a CONGU (Competition) handicap and a CONGU (Club) Handicap. From 2018 players can have a CONGU (Competition) handicap up to 54 and the concept of a CONGU (Club) handicap will cease to exist.

Members with a CONGU (Competition) Handicap of 36 or under can play in all junior competitions at Craigmillar Park. Those with a handicap of 37 or above can play in 9 hole Stablefords, all knockout competitions and fun competitions.

For more information please read the sections on the left hind side of this pages on:
  1. Competition rules
  2. Gaining a handicap
